What Is The Powderhill Guardian Home Program ?
The Powderhill Guardian Home Program is designed to provide willing and approved parties with the opportunity to provide loving homes to one of our prized puppies. Powderhill Goldens retains ownership of the dog until it has provided a pre-determined number of litters, then the dog is spayed and ownership reverts to the Guardian Home and the cost of the dog is reimbursed.
Is There A Contract ??
Most certainly. A copy of the contract is attached to this page. It's important to us that the Guardian Home Provider be aware of our expectations and requirements and be willing to live up to the features of the program as we have designed them.
What's The Benefit To The Guardian Home and Powderhill Goldens ?
The Guardian will get Powderhill's very best pick of the litter because Powderhill reserves the ability to select the #1 pick of every litter. Powderhill selects the dog, always a female. Additionally, the Guardian Home will eventually own the dog for free. For Powderhill, Guardian Homes are a way of enhancing the experience for our prized breeding dogs by allowing them a more intimate family experience during the couple of breeding years.
Is There A Cost To The Guardian Home Provider?
Yes, the costs are the same as purchasing and caring for the puppy initially. The Guardian pays the same price as everyone else for the puppy, then pays for regular Vet visits during the Guardian period. Powderhill will pay for any testing or procedures associated with breeding the dog.
When Will The Guardian Home Have to Provide The Dog To Powderhill ?
During the first year, Powderhill will need to take the dog for a few non-cosecutive days for hip, eye and heart testing. These appointments will be arranged with the Guardian Home Provider in advance. If testing is favorable and the dog is determined breedable, Powderhill will need to take the dog twice a year for a few days for breeding, and then two months later for 4-5 weeks for whelping and until puppies are weaned.
